UNLOCK GLOBAL ENGLISH: HOW IT WORKS
- Needs analysis: at the start of the course, I find out your find out your key needs and priorities based on your experience of using English.
- We then agree on your specific goals, work out a plan to achieve them, and review them as we progress.
- Over the course, you develop your listening and speaking skills and focus on the global English you need in your international role. Discover how different mother tongues and cultures combine to form the many varieties of English in use today. Learn how to decode them and adapt your listening and speaking skills so that you can communicate with ease.
By the end of the course, your understanding and use of global English will be reflected in clearer, easier and more effective work conversations with other multi-language English speakers of any first language.

Course Outline
The materials are presented in a natural order for logical learning:
- Before each live online session: a short audio/text file is sent out with a task to prepare for the live session.
- In the live session: related language, pronunciation and cultural topics provide speaking practice opportunities
- After the live session: follow-up materials are sent out to review the session.
Each course covers three connected elements:
- The sounds and speech patterns of global English and how it is affected by speakers’ native languages. These are the root of many of the misunderstandings between English speakers with differing first languages.
- The range of English vocabulary you need from everyday conversational language, e.g. polite requests to slow down or explain something, to the more specialised business words and phrases in common use.
- Cultural influences on language – far greater than many people realise. Even seemingly simple words, like “please” and “thank you”, can send out the wrong signals and come across as rude or impatient when people follow the rules and examples of their native languages!
